One of the first questions you will be asked (after "have you set a date yet?") is "where are you going on your honeymoon?". For some couples, the idea of planning a honeymoon is as maddening as planning the wedding itself!
Because the wedding is often the bride's "territory," the reception is often considered the responsibility of the groom. For some brides, this spells nothing but trouble! Not all couples see eye to eye on what constitutes the perfect vacation. One person might lust after the idea of doing nothing but lying on a beach for a week while the other might be craving a few days hiking in the mountains. Stereotypically, many brides worry about their grooms planning weeks of nothing but sports and "guy stuff."
The key to having a perfect honeymoon is to work together to figure out what you both really want. Sometimes all it takes is making a list of what you would really love for a honeymoon to find that you have plenty of common ground to build on. For example, if one of you wants nothing more than to lie on the beach and the other wants to play golf for days on end, consider a resort that includes a golf course! If one of you loves the idea of hiking in the mountains while the other prefers sitting cozy by the fire, consider taking a week to go skiing!
The kind of honeymoon you have depends largely upon when you decide to go on your honeymoon. Some couples can't afford to go on a honeymoon immediately after their wedding, while other couples have schedules that just won't accommodate a full week or two away. Ask yourselves if you really want to go directly from your reception to your honeymoon.
Your honeymoon is just for the two of you. Think about what the two of you want and what you can afford. You'll find the decision making a lot easier than you originally thought it would be!
