Unique Wedding Rings

Most people have traditional weddings, even if they'd prefer something daring. Perhaps this is because couples worry about disappointing their friends and family. Or maybe they worry trying something too different might ruin the big occasion. One way to be different without risking embarrassment is with unique wedding rings. These rings provide a great way for couples to express their creativity and uniqueness.

As the name suggests, unique wedding rings aren't mass-produced rings that just anyone can buy. Ordering a ring from a jewelry catalog or store is fast. But how many other couples have ordered the same ring? It may sound petty to think about how many other people are wearing your ring. However, there's nothing wrong with wanting a unique ring that has special meaning.

A unique wedding ring is any ring that doesn't fit the traditional wedding mode. This doesn't mean you should get a big purple plastic ring, but you could if you wanted to. That example is extreme, but you get the idea. A silver band with a cluster of diamonds isn't unique. It's pretty, but thousands of brides have the same thing.

A great way to make that common silver band with diamonds unique is to get creative. Consider adding an interesting visual, like designs often seen on Celtic rings.

Something Old, Something Borrowed, Nothing New

To find a unique wedding ring, look no further than your local antique shop. There aren't many new brides wearing beautifully designed 30 year old, or older, wedding rings.

Antique rings are normally recognizable by year. For instance, rings made between 1837 and 1901 are Victorian Era rings. These rings are usually yellow gold or silver, and have rubies or sapphires for stones.

The Edwardian Era began in 1901 and lasted until 1920. Along with that era came a preference for platinum and diamonds. So antique rings made between 1901 to 1920 are likely to be on the expensive side. For a truly odd or unique looking wedding ring, consider an antique ring from the Art Deco Era.

Art Deco Era rings were made between 1920 to 1930. They have a specific look that's hard to miss. Diamonds and non-diamond stones were equally popular, and so were geometric designs and sharp angles. Out of all the time periods, rings created during the Art Deco Era have the most unique and distinct appearance.

Make Your Own Antique

Your ring doesn't have to be antique to be unique. You can design your own ring and have a jeweler create it. Celebrities often do this, and it's an expensive option. But at least if you create your own ring you'll know the modern materials are durable. Antique rings are sometimes delicate and prone to damage.

There are basically two options when it comes to unique wedding rings: either buy an antique ring or create your own exclusive design. The option you choose depends on how much money you want to spend, and how much time you have before the wedding.
